The Israel Prison Service (IPS) has imposed further punishments and brutal repressive measures against female Palestinian prisoners, depriving them of the most basic human requirements; including clothing, food and medical treatment, the Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Detainees Affairs Authority said yesterday.
The rights watchdog said in a statement that its lawyer had visited 95 female prisoners yesterday, who conveyed to him the “horrors” they have to endure during their imprisonment.
“The Israeli prison administration has completely isolated the female prisoners from the world, and exposes them to ongoing degrading treatment including strip searches, beatings and repression,” it said.
The majority of the female prisoners were arrested after 7 October 2023 and were kept in detention after administrative detention orders were handed to them. Thus, they were held without charge or trial on “secret evidence” which even their lawyers aren’t allowed to access.
Since the outbreak of the Israeli aggression on Gaza on 7 October, the IPS has increased its repressive policies and abuse of Palestinian detainees.
The Palestinian Authority estimates that since October 2023, Israel has arrested more than 11,500 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem.
